Turn Experience into Writing
Writing the Wild in Sedona is a five-day, beginner-friendly nature writing intensive for curious writers, travelers, and anyone who feels drawn to the natural world. Through expert instruction and immersive experiences in Sedona's extraordinary landscape, participants learn to observe more deeply and explore how voice, structure, sensory detail, and reflection transform moments in nature into compelling writing.
Throughout the workshop, participants generate new material, develop a focused draft, and revise it with thoughtful guidance and feedback. Each writer leaves with a polished piece of nature writing, practical revision strategies, and a repeatable creative process for turning future outdoor experiences into meaningful stories and essays.
Sedona as the Classroom
Sedona's dramatic red rock landscapes, winding canyons, and desert ecology create an unparalleled classroom for writers. Immersed in the natural world, participants learn to pay closer attention to light, sound, texture, wildlife, and their own responses to place.
Carefully selected field experiences complement each day's instruction, giving writers time to observe, take notes, and generate fresh material before returning to the page to shape those experiences into polished writing.

Meet Your Instructor
Eric Aldrich, Ph.D.
Eric Aldrich is a writer, educator, and environmental advocate whose work explores the intersection of landscape, observation, and the written word. He teaches literature and writing at Pima Community College, serves on the Board of Directors for the environmental nonprofit Sky Island Alliance, and is an assistant nonfiction editor for Terrain.org. His fiction and nonfiction have appeared in numerous literary journals, and his work is deeply informed by the deserts and mountains of the American Southwest.
In Sedona, Eric will guide participants through the practice of paying close attention—observing the natural world with curiosity, transforming field notes into polished prose, and developing a deeper connection between place and page.** His thoughtful, supportive teaching style encourages writers of all experience levels to slow down, notice more, and discover their own voice in the landscape.

If space is available and the workshop is a good fit, you’ll receive an invitation to enroll and reserve your seat with a $300 deposit.
