Where Place Becomes Part of the Practice

Serious Craft. Remarkable Places.

Wandering Writers Workshops creates immersive, place-based creative intensives for people who want more from both their craft and their travels.

These are not retreats.

They are thoughtfully designed, small-cohort workshops that bring together expert instruction, meaningful engagement with place, and genre-specific creative development. Each experience is grounded in its setting, allowing the culture, landscape, and community to become part of the creative process.

Founded by anthropologist, writer, and educator Dr. Angela Orlando, Wandering Writers Workshops welcomes curious, creative people at every level who want to deepen their practice while encountering the world with greater attention.

Our mission is to unite creative rigor with cultural immersion, helping participants grow through craft, community, place, and perspective.

Craft, Place, and Perspective

Place as Curriculum

We choose each destination to deepen the workshop’s creative focus, making its culture, landscape, and community part of the learning.

Genre-Specific Study

Each intensive focuses on a specific genre or practice, moving participants beyond inspiration toward deeper attention and purposeful creative work.

Creative Experts. Skilled Educators.

Experienced educators who are also genre experts lead every workshop, offering purposeful instruction, practical guidance, and constructive feedback.

Intentionally Small Cohorts

Small cohorts make room for attention, meaningful conversation, and creative community, ensuring every participant can contribute, connect, and feel supported.

A note from Angela

I founded Wandering Writers Workshops to bring together the things that have shaped my own work: travel, culture, reflection, and the power of creative expression.

As an anthropologist specializing in lived experience, tourism, and culture, I design place-based learning experiences that invite you to encounter a destination with greater attention and curiosity. At the beginning of each workshop, I offer an anthropology-based talk that situates us within the history and cultural context of the place we are visiting.

My role is to help create the foundation for the experience, connecting place, perspective, and creative practice so that your time with us becomes more than a journey through a destination. It becomes a deeper way of seeing, reflecting, and creating.
