Travel Writing & Storytelling Intensive

Granada in Story

Granada in Story is a five-day international intensive designed for travelers, writers, and storytellers who want to craft meaningful travel narratives from start to finish.

​

Participants will learn how to:

 

  • Pay closer attention to moments, details, and sensory experience while traveling

  • Identify the beginnings of story in everyday encounters

  • Shape experience into narrative structure

  • Draft with clarity and voice

  • Revise with intention and feedback

  • Prepare a short travel story for sharing aloud

 

No prior publication or performance experience is required.

Daily Rhythm

Expert-led craft instruction and narrative tools

Midday

Curated excursions and guided story-noticing prompts in the field

Afternoon/Evening

Independent drafting, reflection, and optional cohort sharing as the salon showcase approaches

Final Night
Salon Showcase

On the final evening, participants are invited to share a short travel story in a supportive salon-style setting. The showcase includes guided rehearsal time in advance, and sharing is encouraged but designed to be welcoming, not high-pressure.

Tuition: $2,100

Tuition includes:

  • Five days of expert-led instruction with Laura Porfirio
     

  • Complete travel storytelling curriculum
     

  • Guided story-noticing exercises
     

  • Daily excursions designed for writers and storytellers
     

  • Cohort-based discussion and feedback
     

  • Final-night salon story showcase
     

Tuition does not include airfare, lodging, or meals outside scheduled programming.

 

Participants book their own lodging to ensure privacy and comfort. Recommendations and logistics guidance will be provided after acceptance.

Cohort & Application

This workshop is designed for a small group so participants can write, reflect, and connect in a supportive environment. The workshop will run with a minimum of five participants.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with a final application deadline of June 15, 2026.
